October DCM | Region Training Conference

Region 3 had their Regional Training Conference at Rancho Alamitos High School on Saturday, October 9. Everyone gathered at the quad of the school, each with smiles plastered on their face. Across the compass, there was a mixture of color, reds, yellows, teals, oranges, all the color of the rainbow.

As I entered the school, I felt anxious, I did not know what to expect. There were many unfamiliar faces, but all very friendly. When the key clubbers arrived, they had the opportunity to participate in a service project, either by making cards for veterans or making dog toys. As I sat to make a card for the veterans, I pondered on what to write; how can I convey my sincere appreciation to them, and in such a way that will touch their hearts. Everyone one sat around the stage, laughing, smiling, and enjoying the company of other fellow key clubbers.

After registration ended, people split up into their designated division, the LTGs carried out the typical DCMs where they talk about ongoing monthly projects and upcoming events. The DCM was adjourned and all the members were told to go into the gym. Crowds of people began trickling into the, quickly filling up every available seat. Despite the heat, I felt glad to be surrounded such a positive and lively atmosphere.

RTC began with the introductions of the LTGs, special guests, and chaperones. The LTGs then hyped up the members by playing games. I have to admit that at first I found it a little bit embarrassing playing the games, but seeing how everyone was doing it, I felt that there was no shame in having fun. Not soon after, the Key Clubbers were released to attend the workshops.

I found the workshops to be very informative because it gave me insight into college life and how Circle K was structured. The workshops also allowed members from different divisions to intermingle. Overall I would say that the workshops were helpful in helping me plan for my future in college.

All the Key Clubbers had a great time at RTC. It provided the members with the opportunity to meet people from other divisions, expanding their network of connections, as well as learn valuable lifelong lessons. I hope that everyone who attended RTC walked out with a sense of pride, knowing that they are part of something bigger, part of a change that will inspire others to do good in their community, and spread the knowledge they gained from the workshops.
